Tom Viola - Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS
by CandiXRandy in Entertainment
Tags: Candi and Randy Tom Viola David Drake The Night Larry Kramer Kissed Me Broadway Cares Equity Fights AIDS
Candi and Randy welcome the Executive Director of Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS, Tom Viola.
Tom has been at the forefront of HIV/AIDS advocacy for decades, working with the Broadway & theatre community to raise needed funds for a multitude of charities.
In addition, Tom was one of the original producers of the Obie Award winning play "The Night Larry Kramer Kissed Me," written and starring David Drake.
Among many rave reviews, the New York Times called the play "rivetingly angry, intense, frenetic, frank and touching."
Tonight, at the Gerard Lynch Theater at John Jay College, David Drake returns to a one night only celebration of his ground-breaking play. He has rewritten the play to include an all-star cast of openly gay theatre actors including Tony Award nominees Robin De Jesús, André De Shields, Rory O'Malley, RENT's Anthony Rapp, and Tony winner BD Wong.
We talk to Tom about the birth of the play, it's impact on the LGBT community, it's relevance two decades later plus other efforts by BC/EFA.

The Post 9/11 War Being Waged in the Middle East is the Longest War in Our History.
Military Families are Facing Multiple Deployments,
Often at Great Personal and Economic Cost.
Beyond the forgotten headlines-Beyond the forgotten battles across the globe-Beyond the lonely vigil of military families-There are the day to day health needs of our post 9/11 military, their families, and veterans.
What are those needs?
How do we support the waiting families?
And how do we bring them all the medical care they need and deserve?
Quietly and effectively, USA Cares has been answering the call since 2003, first as a neighborhood organization, then as a statewide organization, and now as a national organization
Jennifer Robinson is the VP of Programs and Services at USA Cares where she has worked since 2007. She is a graduate of Ohio State University and holds a Masters from Troy University. Her commitment to helping the military was instilled in her while growing up as an “army brat”. Many of the situations she faces in her work at USA Cares, situations similar to those her family faced, reaffirm her commitment to the organization and those it serves.

The face of hunger is changing. Panera Doesn't offer a Free Lunch - It Offers Caring for people from all walks of life. Panera Cares community cafes are about working together, shoulder to shoulder with our customers, to confront a serious problem plaguing communities across this country. Hunger. Simply put, in these non-profit locations, we will feed anyone. We will offer a dignified dining experience in an uplifting environment – without judgment – whether or not a person can pay. Panera Cares community cafes – operated by the Panera Bread Foundation, a separate Section 501(c)(3) nonprofit entity – are meant to raise the level of awareness about food insecurity in this country, while also being a catalyst for change in our communities. Panera Cares community cafes are designed to help address the ever-worsening epidemic of food insecurity (hunger) in the U.S. Consider this: according to the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), over 17 million U.S. households are considered food insecure. Simply put, for a significant number of Americans, putting food on the table is a struggle. 16 million kids – 1 in 5 – do not have enough to eat each day and lack the means to get enough nutritious food on a regular basis. Kate Antonacci is Director of Societal Impact Initiatives at Panera Bread.
