Today Shirley Gutkokwski will explore the team that is needed to support women so they can breasfeed their babies successfully. This means healthy babies and happy moms. Today's guest is Dr. Lawrence Kotlow is a 1972 graduate of SUNY Buffalo Dental School, and completed his pediatric dental residency at the Children's Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio between 1972-1974. Since 1974 he has had a private practice in Albany, New York. He became Board Certified in Pediatric dentistry in 1980 , and is a Fellow in the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry.
The topics we will cover today will include but not be limited to the breastfeeding team, why mothers need a team effort in getting their infants breastfeeding without problems for either the mom or the infants. The role of the pediatric dentist, IBCLC and cranial sacral therapist is developing the mother infant relationship during breastfeeding.
From the moment the baby is born, in a perfect world, someone on the delivery team should acess the baby for tongue or lip tie. These small issues can be easily corrected and often go unnoticed, these babies can have trouble sucking, latching on or even have failure to thrive which my be blamed on something unrelated, when infact a simple procedure can solve this issue. If a mother has an abundance of milk this may not be noticed at first and ultimately affect tooth and jaw devlopment.
Join us today to learn more about the world of breastfeeding and who on the team can support babies and moms.

Why do we have so much contraversy around Breastfeeding? One of the reasons is the way women's bosies have been objectified and subjectified. Showing women's nipples in public has such shame attached to it - as Janet Jackson found out at the Super bowl when her nipple slipped out of her top. Women are covering their babies in a quest to cover themselves while breastfeeding in public - almost seems like a step backwards in liberating ourselves. Advocacy plays an important role in liberating us from taboos that no longer serve us. Today we talk breastfeeding & advocacy with Derek Forgie, a Canadian comedian and active advocate for breastfeeding and a whole lot more! He posted a very passionate rant entitled "Superbowl vs My Wifes Breasts" that went viral. You will hear it here but it's a must to watch https://www.facebook.com/video.php?v=10153051548929836
The epistle of Peter presents God in Times of Difficulties. My beloved in the Lord Jesus Christ, regardless of whatever difficulty you are evidently facing, I want to let you know that Our God, the creator of Heaven and Earth, the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, the God of hope and love is the God in times of difficulties. You must be encouraged because the Christians hope is trusting, and waiting patiently on God. The Christian hope worth believing regardless of the difficulties, the Christian hope is worth dying for, the Christian hope is worth suffering for, The Christian hope is worth more than any fame, honor, pleasure and riches this world could offer. It is true that life difficulties make us want to let go and give up; it make us want to believe that God is not working around us anymore and doubt His love for us; be patient, because those who wait on the Lord, even in the worst of times, will mount up with wings like eagle. Trust God in your difficult times, He is the God in times of difficulties.

Breastfeeding in public has been a hot topic in the birthing and parenting worlds. Often breastfeeding in public is treated as taboo and breastfeeding mothers may be asked to leave stores or businesses. When did breastfeeding your baby become taboo or controversial? Does the lack of acceptance of public breastfeeding affect breastfeeding rates? According to the CDC, less than 80% of babies are ever breastfed, with rates dropping to less than 50% by age 6 months. In many parts of the world, breastfeeding rates are much higher and public breastfeeding is widely accepted--why not here in the U.S.? What can we do to normalize breastfeeding so that woman are free to breastfeed their babies whenever and whereever they need to? What can we do to promote the diversity of breastfeeding, whether it be culturally or even in the ways women choose to breastfeed (on the breast, pumping, tandem, etc.)?
Vaness Simmons, photographer and founder of the Normalize Breastfeeding Awareness Campaign is on the show tonight to discuss how she's out to postively impact breastfeeding in the United States and what you can do to help. Find out more at http://normalizebreastfeeding.org/.
