Why Publishing A Book Gives Your Instant Authority On A Subject is our topic on The Core Businesss Show with Tim Jacquet. You probably won't make much money, but a book can be a great marketing tool and credibility builder. When corporate philanthropy consultant Susan Hyatt wrote a book, Strategy for Good: Business Giving Strategies for the 21st Century, it went on to win four publishing awards and got testimonials from top execs at Pfizer, Timberland, and Starbucks. Most important, it caught the attention of potential clients. "It does open doors," she says. "The credibility is big. If people know you've written a book, they do take notice. It's attracted new business for me, for sure." Yet it sold just 1,000 copies. Books by or about entrepreneurs rarely sell well (unless they include the name Musk, Gates, Jobs, or Buffett), so if you're considering writing a book, know that you most likely won't make a dime. In fact, if you self-publish instead of working through a traditional publisher, you could spend tens of thousands of dollars. That's why you should treat your book like a marketing investment that you can use to boost your company's bottom line. Apple Capital Group, Inc. and The Core Business Show
An ‘e’ in front of any word changes our expectation of that item. eBooks exemplify that point… what makes an eBook a book and what makes it ‘e’lectronic? In pK-12 most learners have expectations of how they interact with these digital assets based on their home life and their familiarity with the Internet, browsers, and dynamically generated content. Here two cultures collide… the organized structure of school and the dynamic nature and expectations of digital assets. In this show we will discuss the tug-of-war between the the market requirements and the user expectations, the changing nature of those expectations, and the evolving technical and business challenges. The discussion should elucidate some of the key issues so you know what you’re getting into when you say “eBook ’em Danno!”
