Boxing History - HBO Boxing After Dark Anniversary Show

    in Sports

February 3, 1996: Marco Antonio Barrera TKO12 Kennedy McKinney. That means that almost exactly 20 years ago HBO debuted the Boxing After Dark series with much success. The series has gone on to become nearly legendary, and HBO's boxing programming has at times become synonymous with the sport itself.

On this boxing history episode of Top Men Boxing Radio, Aris Pina of Compubox and The Fight City's Patrick Connor talk about the various Boxing After Dark shows that have left imprints on their memories. From Ivan Robinson vs Arturo Gatti, to Erik Morales vs Daniel Zaragoza and onto his rivalry with Barrera himself. There was heavyweight action with Derrick Jefferson vs Maurice Harris too, but a whole lot more than that.

Boxing News and Discussion with Brian Campbell

    in Sports

Most of 2016 to this point has been us waiting for bigger fights to get made and hanging onto every negotiation update. It's okay, though. The boxing world almost always slows down early in the year. Buck up, everyone.

Another reason to cheer up is that Brian Campbell of ESPN joins the Patrick Connor of The Fight City this week to be the resident philosophe. From "Canelo" Alvarez vs Amir Khan being announced, to Gennady Golovkin vs Dominic Wade, Andre Ward vs Sullivan Barrera, Carl Frampton vs Scott Quigg, the heavyweights and more... Campbell will show us the way.

Ep 505 Quillin vs Jacobs WBA Regular Middleweight Championship BOXiNG Wrap-up

    in Sports

Gennady Golovkin reigns as the middleweight division's ruler with his WBA Super World, IBF World and IBO World Middleweight Championships. Canelo Alvarez is the lineal champion with his WBC World Middleweight Championship, which hasn't meant a thing since Sergio Martinez had 2 good legs to walk on. WBO World Middleweight Champion, Andy Lee is set to defend against the undefeated Billy Joe Saunders who has collected the British, Commonwealth and European Middleweight Championship in 2 weeks.

Saturday on Showtime from Brooklyn's Barclays Center, former WBO World Middleweight Champion Peter Quillin takes on reigning WBA "Regular" Champion Daniel Jacobs for what may be the most meaningless middleweight championship in boxing. Many fights have been called "The Battle of Brooklyn" but this one might be the most hyped and least anticapted of them all.

    Boxing History: Light Heavyweight Rematches

    in Sports

This weekend's HBO main event is a rematch between Sergey Kovalev and Jean Pascal that nobody really asked for and few seem to want. There has been some weird press conference drama, but otherwise we could just do without it. Fighters do have to fight, though.

As an accompaniment to this light heavyweight rematch, Aris Pina of Compubox and The Fight City's Patrick Connor, both total suckers fo fight history, talk about other notable rematches at 175 pounds.

From Roy Jones Jr. vs Montell Griffin II to Dennis Andries vs Jeff Harding II, and back around again to Matthew Saad Muhammad vs Marvin Johnson II... Plus a lot more.

Ep 513 It Khan Not Be | Canelo Alvarez vs Amir Khan BOXiNG Preview

    in Sports

The Pound4Pound Kings of Boxing Broadcast Journalism. ONTHEGRiND BOXiNG is the world's number 1 boxing podcast, and blogtalkradio's original boxing program.

Many boxing observers are accusing Amir Khan's father, Shah Khan of signing his own son's death warrant by negotiation for an agreeing to a fight with lineal middleweight title-holder, Saul "Canelo" Alvarez. The jump up in weight is widely considered too great for Khan who moves up a full weight class and a pound, to what has become known as "Canelo weight."

Even as "middleweight champion," Canelo is back to doing what he does best, facing smaller challengers nobody in his weight class is worried about.

ONTHEGRiND BOXiNG breaks down the fight in the aftermath along with the latest boxing news, commentary, predictions and analysis from around the boxing world.
