    Black Love Part 2

    in Self Help

Some people think that the words "Black love" are just another way to label love and relationships. After all, they reason, everyone regardless of ethnicity desires to have healthy relationships and experience love. What's so different about Black love? The term "Black love" is not about exclusion, but about knowing our worth, uplifting one another, and supporting each other especially when we've been taught that everything about us is inferior. Join us as we discuss the ingredients of Black love--what do we need to do to have healthy relationships? Believe it or not, there are examples of Black love--the media, couples we know personally, etc. Sometimes we need to stop listening to the negativity that the media feeds us and open our eyes and look around us

Madness Monday: The Exploitation of the Black Experience

    in Entertainment

Everybody seems to capitalize off the “Black experience” weather its in politics, entertainment or fashion. What, at one point or another, was seemed as ghetto, trashy or obnoxious is now socially acceptable.

We have black artist rapping as if their conscious but married to a woman who's NOT of color.
We have politicians who only come out in public when the dollar is right.
We have other black artist creating fashion lines called “Niggas in Paris.”

...But yet we have nobody doing anything about this. Just as we have “activist” and protest when a black person is killed wrongfully, why can't we do the same when a coon ass nigga decides to play house with his massa and flip on his people?

The next time a black celebrity does something we ALL need to hold that person accountable and bring to light how they fucking up their own people

Question of the Night: Do you believe that we can change lives by speaking out when our own people use our struggle as a means to gain more money and fame?

Baltimore, A Black Mother’s Love - with Dr. Robin Boylorn

    in Current Events

Join CULTURAL CONVERSATIONS as we reflect on the Baltimore riots, the role a Black Mother played in becoming an iconic figure in media and in community.  We welcome Dr. Robin Boylorn, educator, writer, with Crunk Feminist Collective, to the show.  Dr. Boylorn will talk about her article "A Black Mother's Love (or What Love Looks Like in Public)",  which reflected on the actions of the Baltimore Mother of the Year and society's reaction and understanding of the role Black Mothers must take in leadership.

Robin M. Boylorn, Ph.D., ?earned her doctorate in 2009 from University of South Florida.  Currently she is Assistant Professor of Interpersonal and Intercultural Communication at the University of Alabama where she teaches and writes about issues of social identity and diversity, focusing primarily on the lived experiences of black women. Boylorn's work concentrates on ways of documenting marginalized lives and making them accessible and available to wide audiences.  She seeks to give voice to silenced experiences and offer strategies for talking about and across difference (in its many manifestations).
