Over the past 40 years the Atlanta Falcons, Atlanta Braves and Atlanta Hawks have had interesting franchise histories. The Atlanta Hawks have never advanced to the Eastern Conference Finals. The Atlanta Braves have one World Series despite having the most dominate starting pitching in history at one point. The Atlanta Falcons until recently had never had back to back winning seasons. Yes, "winning" isn't something Atlanta as a whole is known for immediate as opposed to the New York Yankees (almost three decades worth of World Series rings), Green Bay Packers, Chicago Bulls (Jordan era), etc.
But, does that mean that fans have an excuse not to show up to games at all? What makes Atlanta so much different from Indiana (Pacers haven't won a Finals yet), Chicago (Cubs still manage to have nice draws and they haven't won anything), or the Cleveland Browns (people keep referring them as a storied franchise, but they haven't won anything either). So what is it? "Hotlanta" would seem to be the best spot to be a sports fan. Great stadiums, great food, night life, and in the end, teams that are much more regularly competitive yearly than others (until recently Falcons had a 6 year streak going, Hawks have made playoffs 7 straight years, Braves regressed this year after having a great year last year).
Are you a resident of Atlanta? Did you used to live in Atlanta? Are you a sports fan of any of the teams? Call in and give your thoughts....
Pastor Leonce Crump at Oklahoma he was an All-American wrestler and played defensive end on the Sooner football team. After college he competed to make the world team in wrestling, played professional football for the New Orleans Saints and coached collegiate wrestling. He experienced an extended time of rebellion and running from God during college, but after 22 months of living as though he were not a Christian he surrendered to Jesus and ultimately to God's calling into ministry.
Leonce pastored in 3 other churches prior, starting and leading 3 college and young adult ministries. In 2006 he felt called to plant a church and through prayerful seeking of direction settled on the under-served area of downtown Atlanta. In early 2008 he and his wife moved to Atlanta from Tennessee to begin the process of planting Renovation Church. In 2009 Leonce was assessed and approved as a member of the Acts 29 church planting network, and began a partnership with Perimeter Church in Atlanta in their commitment to local church planting.
Leonce and his wife Breanna have lived in the Grant Park community of Atlanta for over 4 years, and have two daughters.
