The Bears (5-9) host the Detroit Lions (10-4) in a game that can help determine the NFC North race. The Lions are a game ahead of the Green Bay Packers, and can clinch the division today with a win and a Packer loss. The Bears close out their home portion of a very disappointing season by changing quarterbacks against one of the top rated defenses in the NFL. Jimmy Claussen will have his hands full with a Detroit front four led by the best defensive tackle in the league. Can the Bears look competative? Will the Lions keep their foot on the gas? We break it all down after the game.
Last weekend the Bears, Lions and Packers sat out on the Bye Weeks to get a few things together and comeback strong. It was a breath of fresh ar to see a return of Calvin "Megatron" Johnson to the Lions for their match-up against the Dolphins this week. It was also a good week for the Bears the to try and figure out where in the world they are going wrong. Is the Cutler the real deal and what's up with the coaching staff decisions? The ackers, who told us to R E L A X a few weeks ago and coming ouyt the gate saying it again. The Packers do battle with the Bears and while they will not be taking this game likely, it seems that it still may be a W for them.
Welcome to The Inscriber Media Network, home of "The Mad Scientist's Sports Lab", hosted by "The Mad Scientist of Sports" Nick Ficorelli and "The Apprentice" Andrew Gluchov. This is not the average everyday sports show they are bringing to the air waves. "The Mad Scientist" has created his own personal sports lab, and you, the audience, as well as many of his special guests, will be his test subjects. He will throw theories out, and you never know where they will be coming from. He will keep everyone guessing, and he will open his lab to any and all comers. Be prepared for "mad science" sports talk at its best.
Once again, we have a packed episode as we get ready for the upcoming Fantasy Football season, talk some NFL Hall of Hame and Bears and Vikings Training Camp News, Ronda Rousey and MMA, and some NBA talk with an old friend. At 10pm, we talk Fantasy Football as we welcome back our "Allie's Fantasy Alley" segment with Allie Fontana. Plus we will also have DraftKings' Justin Lonero. At 1030pm, we have Josh Zimmer and Montel Hardy of NGSC Sports, as we talk the NFL hall Of Fame, and what they witnessed early on at Vikings and Bears camps. At 1100pm, we have Shawn Stewart of Sports 4 Fanz joining us to talk MMA, specifically Ronda Rousey and her dominance in the octagon. And, at 1130pm, we welcome back Jabari Davis of Lakers Nation and formerly of Basketball Insiders, to talk some NBA, and get his opinion on Becky Hammon and other news and notes from around the leagu.
The beacons are lit, the experiments are on the chalk board, and the test subjects are at the ready - The Mad Scientist's Sports Lab is open for business.
The Cubs took 2 out of 3 against the Rockies, thanks to a dominant performance on the mound from Jon Lester. As they head to Milwaukee for a 4 game series vs the Brewers, their bats and bullpen still need help. With the trade deadline one day away, other teams are making moves while the Cubs stand pat.
The Bears began training camp today hoping to build on the chemistry that old teammates and new built during minicamps and OTAs. Can John Fox unite this ragtag group and bring them back to Soldier Field ready to surprise the NFL?
Tonight I'll also begin taking a closer look at the NFC North rivals, starting with the Minnesota Vikings. What can we expect from the purple and gold in 2015?

After sweeping the Milwaukee Brewers, the Cubs are now locked in a tight battle race for the 2nd Wild Card spot. The upcoming stretch is a crucial one as they take on the Pirates, who currently hold the 1st Wild Card, before a 4-game series at home against the Giants who are just 1/2 game back of the Cubs in the Wild Card race. With a starting pitcher and reliever added before last Friday's trade deadline, the Cubs have a legitimate shot to make the playoffs. Let's all enjoy the ride!
The Bears had their first off-day of training camp today, but there's still plenty to talk about. Rookie WR Kevin White is still MIA with a bad shin, rookies and 2nd year players are challenging veterans at several positions, and the players like what they see from Defensive Coordinator Vic Fangio's 3-4 scheme so far.
Elsewhere in the NFC North, the Detroit Lions are trying to make the playoffs in back-to-back seasons for the first time since the mid 1990s. With several key losses along their defensive line, what can we expect from one of the best run-stopping defenses in football last year?

Football returns tonight in Canton, Ohio when the Pittsburgh Steelers take on the Minnesota Vikings for the opening preseason game of the 2015 NFL season.
At halftime, BTSC will be bringing you our first ever halftime show with Dani Bostick and Chris Carter on SteelCast. Why listen to generic drivel about the game and inane comments about the weather when you can hear the Steelers' perspective before the second half starts.
If you want to listen in -- and you know you do!!-- you can either listen here, or call in to 347-850-8581 to weigh in and share your thoughts. As usual, Twitter and our open thread here on the blog are also places you can contribute.

I go over the article from Motor City Bengals headlining that Al Avila wants to focus on advanced analytics and compare it to Manny Acta's intelligence in analytics, sabermetrics, fundamentals, and high-leverage situation decisions.
The Lions have released wide receiver Ryan Broyles, traded tryout kicker Kyle Brindza to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for tight end Tim Wright, and activated defensive tackle Haloti Ngata and running back Joique Bell from the non-football injury list. Linebacker Kyle Van Noy also returns.
Lions and Packers and Bears, oh my! (and the Vikings too, but nobody cares about them).
As someone who likes the majority of the teams in this division and likes to see them all succeed, this division really bums me out. There's not enough spots to go around for three good teams in the NFC North, and someone has to sit on the sidelines. Such is the game of football, but that doesn't make it any better.
The preseason really needs to end....
