Can Music Therapy Help People in Pain? -- Pain Waves Radio by Pain BC

    in Health

*Note: If you missed the live recording and still want to ask questions, please email Gemma at president@mtabc.com.

Join us as we interview Gemma Isaac, an accredited (MTA) music therapist and certified in Neurologic Music Therapy. As the music therapist at the Burns, Plastic and Trauma Unit (BPTU) at VGH, Gemma facilitates music therapy programs for patients, their families, and healthcare staff alike. http://gemmamusictherapy.com/

    How does music therapy work?

Music therapy is facilitated through a variety of interventions including patient song choices, music making, song writing, improvisation, and guided relaxation. Other times, the music therapist works alongside other healthcare disciplines such as nurses, physiotherapist, or occupational therapist, using music during physical rehabilitation to inspire movement and promote encouragement by accompanying movement through musical cues, which also helps peoople become distracted from the pain. Visit www.mtabc.com or www.musicheals.ca for more info.

Don't miss your chance to ask questions! How can music therapy help you and your loved ones better deal with pain?

Pain Waves Radio is sponsored by Pain BC

Tanenbaum of TSN & Tanenbaum Argo Owners, a couple of days after purchase of the Team was announced declared there will be a NFL Team in Toronto.  How does the purchase affect the existing CFL Franchise, for example does this mean the NFL Toronto Team could become the Argonauts?  So many questions, so little time.  David Knott joins us, the NOT NFL in Toronto Guy.  Love his Facebook Group.
In Montreal Michael Sam brushed off a reporter's comparison between himself and Jackie Robinson, who played for a minor-league team in Montreal before breaking the colour barrier in Major League Baseball.  "I'm just here to play football," Sam said. "I'm not here to try to do anything historic."  He did, though, have a message for Montreal's LGBT community.  "If you're afraid of what your family and friends may think ... come to me. I'll be your family."  Has winning the Grey Cup become much more difficult for the Home Team now? Are the bombers the home team at the wrong time.

Why does Mommy hurt? An interview with author Elizabeth Christy on chronic pain

    in Health

Elizabeth M. Christy lives in Northern Virginia with her husband James, son Jimmy (5), and daughter Lucy (newborn). She is the best-selling author of the children’s book "Why Does Mommy Hurt? Helping Children Cope with having a Caregiver with Chronic Pain, Fibromyalgia, or Autoimmune Disease," and blogs on parentswithpain.com and potomacfallsmama.blogspot.ca.  Additionally, she works as a Systems Integrator for TASC. In addition to basic survival, Elizabeth enjoys writing, sewing (especially in straight lines!), and reading good memoirs.

“Why Does Mommy Hurt?” is a great resource to talk to children about chronic pain and illness. On this episode, we'll discuss the guilt and shame many parents suffering from chronic pain feel about their parenting. The fact is that parents with chronic pain or illness can be just as awesome as “normal” parents when it comes to raising kids, and if you love your kids, that’s all that matters.  We may not be able to walk a mile to the playground, cook a 7-course organic meal from scratch, or volunteer on a field trip to the amusement park, but that’s not what really matters. If you love your kids, you will find your own way, and your kids will know it. Also, many parents in this situation feel very alone, especially when first diagnosed. There are millions of families out there in the same situation, you are not alone, and you have support out there waiting for you!

Lost Arts Radio Show #20 - Special Guest Michelle Rowton

    in Health

Michelle Rowton, MSN Neonatal Nurse Practitioner - Introducing: Nurses Against Mandatory Vaccines (NAMV)

Michelle Rowton, MSN, RNC-NIC, C-NPT, NNP-BC, is a Masters-level prepared nurse, a neonatal nurse practitioner with extensive training in functional medicine. She is recognized by the Texas Board of Nursing and licensed as an Advance Practice Nurse. Michelle is also a spokesperson for Nurses Against Mandatory Vaccines, and one of the important voices speaking out in opposition to the massive campaign that has been set into motion worldwide to bring in universal forced vaccination. Nurses were one of the first groups targeted in the U.S. and the flu shot was apparently chosen for the main focus of the initial assault. Nurses Against Mandatory Vaccines was started to give nurses a collective strong and informed voice against the unconstitutional practice of forcing medical treatment on healthcare workers in violation of informed consent. But forcing vaccination or any other medical treatment on people anywhere is unacceptable for the same reasons as is subjecting nurses to this violation of the right to choose or reject any medical treatment for one's own body.

Please support the work of Nurses Against Mandatory Vaccines (www.namv.org) as they fight for the freedoms that America once stood for. The Fourth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution does not allow for this kind of mandatory invasive procedure no matter what the supposed benefits may be. Forced vaccination is also in violation of the Nuremburg Code of 1947, which requires informed consent for any medical procedures. There are no special conditions or "emergencies" which make violation of the U.S. Constitution acceptable in our country.

    in Football

    Tonight's Guests:

    CFL Commissioner Jeffrey Orridge,
Former Argo, Cowboy and TSN CFL Expert Chris Schultz,
Chairman of the CFL Board of Governors Jim Lawson,
    Toronto Argonaut Andre Durie,
Bob Hunter MLSE Builder (worked on Skydome back in the Day) and
the man that "NOBODY" has been longer with MLSE former Mayor Lastman's Son Dale Lastman, legal counsel for MLSE.

On behalf of the gang at Candid Frank Live CFL Talk a deepest and sincere thank you for the immediate response requesting inclusion as cohosts on our show. I was tickled pink to get a few die hard Lady CFL Fans wishing to make a contribution, assisting me in feeling less of a troglodyte today. Living with 5 women and female cat can cast self-doubt in my opinion as man interacting with women daily outside the home. WE NEED female voices on the Program. Dozens of legitimate intelligent talented people have asked to join the team of CFL Fancasters on our Show. I make this promise to all of you, "none of us are here, will in any way reject ANYONE!". I will say this, the show will make that decision for some. Make me a promise though, don't let a decision be made by yourself or others, based on being unfair to you, please. This show has been therapy for me as has the CFL, CFLPA, CFL Alumni and all of their members. These are Wonderful big hearted group of people. Losing my ability to do what I worked hard at, and for over 50 years was a inexpiable disaster. One of my Loves of my Life, my career evaporated suddenly and painfully. Recovering is difficult, but thanks to people whose kindness, sympathy and understanding, or have like issues have helped by assisting me in finding my way towards happiness and contentment.
