According to national statistics provided by Arrow and confirmed by Sylvia Hooper 40 to 50 percent of foster children will never complete high school. Sixty-six percent of them will be homeless, go to jail or die within one year of leaving the foster care system at 18.
Sylvia also said 80 percent of the prison population once was in foster care, and that girls in foster care are 600 percent more likely than the general population to become pregnant before the age of 21.

Sylvia was an adoptive child who went back into the system after her adoptive parents passed away at age 15. Sylvia has a Bachelor's degree in Psychology from Adephi Unversity and has her Masters in Social Work . She is also working with the Administration for Children Services as a Child Protective Specialist.
A handful of volunteers changed the Cleveland, TN animal shelter from a place where animals went to die into a place where they now are adopted by loving people. Talkupy with Annie Lindstrom welcomes Beth Foster, an organizer for Cleveland for a No Kill City, to the show on Thursday, June 6 at 11 am Eastern Time. We will discuss Beth's feeling that Animal Rights will be the next big social justice movement and what she learned as an activist and organizer. Here is more information about Joe. Joe Foster is the Executive Director of the Santa Cruz County Business Council (SCCBC). Through his position, he serves as a liaison between private-sector SCCBC member institutions and public-sector officials throughout the County, with the charge to support economic vitality for our community. His other public service work is through his involvement with the Santa Cruz Chamber of Commerce’s Community Affairs Committee and his seat on the Smart Solutions to Homelessness in Santa Cruz County leadership council. In addition to his work with SCCBC, Foster also provides public relations, communications and social media consulting to clients around the San Francisco Bay Area.
