With the artistry of vocalist and songwriter Amanda Lamb, the compass points to Southern California and the sun swept shores of Orange County. Amanda’s new single, “We Were Here,” is an invitation to a coastline drive and an exuberant nod to her West coast roots.
Growing up in Newport Beach, humming along to Dixie Chicks and Shania Twain on the radio, Amanda Lamb was entranced by the authenticity of country music. “The stories in these songs sounded real,” she says. When she began her personal musical journey, she recalls her grandmother making a perceptive suggestion. “She said, ‘Why aren't you singing country?’” Recording in Nashville, she realized that her Grandmother had been right. “Country Music feels more comfortable than anything I have ever done,” she says. “It feels like home.”

9 am Sunday morning Divine Service for 12/21/14. Traditional liturgy and law gospel sermon. Pastor Housers’s sermon. First reading - 2 Samuel 7: 1-11, 16. Gospel - Luke 1:26-38. King David thinks he defeats Israel’s enemies and decides to build God a house - like his palace. However the reason Israel defeated their enemies was the hand of God. God did it for them so David wanted to do something for God. Works righteousness, idolatry, foolishness and vanity. (God didn’t ask David to build him a fancy temple.)

In the gospel, God dwells in Mary’s womb so He can take His place amongst us. It’s just Mary - nothing fancy. However the Lord favored her. The gospel is God doing the work for us - not the other way around. Jesus defeats the real enemies; satan, the world and our sinful human nature. He brings about our salvation and victory over sin.

9 am Sunday morning Divine Service for 12/7/14. Traditional liturgy and law gospel sermon. Pastor Houser’s sermon. Mark 1: 1-8 the Gospel.

Words matter and convey reality. The first works of Mark, “The beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God”. Likewise Genesis: “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth”. Beginning is a noun and adjective. THE gospel begins with Jesus - there is no other gospel apart from Him. It’s the beginning of salvation and life. Jesus does not simply represent - He is THE source of life and salvation. The Word of God matters.

9 am Sunday morning Divine Service for 12/14/14. Traditional liturgy and law gospel sermon. Pastor Bagnal’s sermon. John 1: 6-8; 19-28 the Gospel. Advent has never been given its due. Lent seems more powerful. John the Baptist’s message gets lost in the coming of Jesus. We want Christmas to be here.

We need to slow down and appreciate Advent for what it is; preparation for Christmas. John the Baptist proclaims the need for Jesus Christ. We approach the coming Christ in penitence and desperately need Him. Advent is the time to pray and prepare to receive mercy and forgiveness. God walks amongst us.

Divine Service for 10/5/14. Pastor Houser’s Sermon from the Gospel of Matthew 21:33-46. In the beginning God created man in His image. Eden (the vineyard) was perfect with access to God. But then there was the fall. The vineyard is not paradise anymore. We are separated from God by sin. We’re in the same situation as the tenants in the vineyard who killed the son (today’s Gospel reading). We’re wretched sinners who deserved a miserable death. But we don’t get what we deserve. Jesus gives us access to the Father. By grace we have been transformed from wretches to children of God. Jesus is the cornerstone upon which the weight of our sin rests. Our salvation comes from Him.

9 am Sunday morning Divine Service for 11/30/14. Traditional liturgy and law gospel sermon. Pastor Houser’s sermon. Mark 11: 1-10 the Gospel. Jesus rides the donkey into Jerusalem to great adulation.

How did Jesus know a colt would be tied up at the entrance to the village and had never been ridden? It’s because he’s God and it’s a matter of Faith - not human reasoning. By Faith we hear the Word of the Lord and believe. We know we’ll find what God’s promised because of Faith.

9 am Sunday morning Divine Service for 11/23/14. Traditional liturgy and law gospel sermon. Pastor Houser’s sermon. Matthew 25: 31-46 the Gospel.

First life, then fruit. First comes our Lord Jesus Christ who is life and gives himself as a ransom for our sin and overcomes death. The fruit of the cross bears salvation.

In the Gospel Christ says, “For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you clothed me, I was sick and you visited me, I was in prison and you came to me. Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me.”

But understand the Gospel  truth. First comes life in Christ from which flows fruit of good works - not that we may boast. Everything done apart from Faith is sin.

9 am Sunday morning Divine Service for 11/9/14. Traditional liturgy and law gospel sermon. Pastor Houser’s sermon. Amos 5:18-24 was the first reading, Thessalonians 4: 13-18 the second and Matthew 5:18-24 the Gospel. From Amos, “Let justice roll down like waters and righteousness like an an ever flowing stream”. Justice is a good thing, but those who are guilty look for mercy. We are guilty sinners and none of us is innocent.

In Thessalonians, Paul tell us we have hope because of Jesus Christ and God’s grace and mercy. Our righteousness is in Christ. “Let justice roll down like waters” is not good news for us sinners. However we are made clean by the blood of our Lord Jesus. We will stand before God, but it will be a happy days for us.

Divine Service for  9/28/14. Pastor Houser’s sermon from the Gospel of Matthew 21:23-32 - The law demands perfection. We can't fulfill the law, but Jesus does. The law in many ways is about not only what is done, but why it's done. We can't rise above self-interest which drives the train as opposed to the will of the Father. But Jesus followed the will of the Father and fulfilled the law on the cross upon which our sins hung.

Sunday morning Divine Service. Traditional, Liturgical, Confessional with Law Gospel sermons and weekly Holy Communion. Traditional hymns.

9 am Sunday morning Divine Service for 11/16/14. Traditional liturgy and law gospel sermon. Pastor Houser’s sermon. Zephaniah 1:7-16 was the first reading, Thessalonians 5: 5-11 the second and Matthew 25:14-34 the Gospel. The great and terrible day of the Lord is near. Zephaniah tells us to be silent as the glory of God will be on display and many will be lost.

We’ve been set free and will not grieve. But we have nothing to declare in the face of our Lord Jesus Christ. Jesus has spoken for each of us and we had been made righteous.

The Master will say, “Well done thou good and faithful servant”, however we have done nothing to deserve that. We are baptized and hear the Word. We have been forgiven. Rejoice silently.

9 am Sunday morning Divine Service for 10/26/14. Traditional liturgy and law gospel sermon. Guest preacher Pastor Vincent Shaw's sermon from the gospel of John 8:31-36 for Reformation Sunday. Beware of the prince of darkness. Jesus Christ is the narrow road, and the only way to salvation. Broad and wide may seem easier; however the road is narrow. Jesus bore our sins on the cross. A mighty fortress is our God.
