Host Barbara Ehrentreu presents a very special show of Red River Radio Tales from the Pages on Thursday, March 26th at 4PM EST. It isn't ofen my listeners get to hear an experienced radio host and today my guest is J. Todd Underhill. J. Todd Underhill started his broadcasting career back in 1994 while he was still in college and continued pursuing both his radio career and his poetry until the present. He has been an announcer for both wrestling and race cars as well as an MC for several poetry cafes in the Denver area. His passion has always been poetry and he has published three books, Partners in Rhyme with Georgia based poet Amanda Norton,Tome I: Genesis and Tome II : Genesis. His exuberant personality and his talent have created along with his co-broadcasters, Michael Amidei and JT Gunter, a place for any poet to read and have his or her poetry appreciated without judgement. World Open Mic: http://www.worldpoetryopenmic.net creates a platform for poets all over the world. As you can see I am very excited to bring this unique and talented poet to my listeners. I am a big fan of the show and I just started listening a few months ago. The camaraderie of the poets who convene on Friday nights to listen to and read poetry is unique. Through World Poetry Open Mic I have met some very talented and prolific poets. One of these poets who has inspired me and who also is an author with many years of both teaching experience and writing poetry is Cynthia Sharp. Cynthis lives in British Columbia, Canada and I am also very excited to bring her to my listeners. Cynthia's book How to Write Poetry: http://www.amazon.com/How-Write-Poetry-Resource-Students-ebook/dp/B00PPYC8N8/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1425857850&sr=8-1&keywords=How+to+Write+Poetry+by+Cynthia+Sharp excellent for both novice and experienced poets. Again this is a show that is not to be missed!!
To Cruise or Not To Cruise, that is the Question. It's sort of like chopped liver, you either love cruising or you hate it. Ironically, the same reasons some love cruises are the same reasons others do not. This week, The Traveling Eye host Bonnie DeShong and Ja'Vonne Harley look at cruises and discuss the different types, destinations and even the ships to give you all the evidence you need to say "Anchors Aweigh" or "Abandon Ship". Tune in and you make the call.
Desoto Magazines article on the Buffalo National River in Arkansas Ozarks.
The end of 2014 brought a legal victory so significant for the Buffalo National River watershed in Arkansas that the nonprofit environmental law organization Earthjustice called it “a rare win against industrial agriculture and federal malfeasance.”
Congress established the Buffalo National River in 1972 as America’s first national river. Over a million people visit this national park each year, spending over $46 million annually in local communities. Activities at the park include canoeing, fishing, swimming, caving, camping, hiking, hunting, and sightseeing.
Last month, U.S. District Judge D. Price Marshall found two federal agencies liable for illegally guaranteeing portions of approximately $3.6 million in loans applied for by C&H Hog Farms, a 6,500-animal factory farm that began operating on a tributary of the river in 2013. The two federal agencies—the Small Business Administration (SBA) and the Farm Service Agency (FSA)—guaranteed these loans despite failing to conduct adequate environmental reviews.
My two guests for March are J.J. White and Quintin Peterson.
J.J. White has penned seven novels and over two hundred short stories since he began writing seriously. He has had articles and stories published in several anthologies and magazines. J.J. was recently nominated for the Pushcart Prize for his short piece Tour Bus. His novel, Prodigious Savant, was published in 2014 as part of a three book deal with Black Opal Books.
Quintin Peterson is a retired District of Columbia police officer who served the public for more than 28 years. He is an artist and an award-winning author of crime fiction. Quintin was also a liaison between the department and members of the motion picture and television industries, acting as a script consultant and technical adviser.
Both authors are new to me. I hope you can come by and listen as I discover more about each of them.
