    Wrapping Up NFL Wildcard Weekend

    in Sports

How bout these wildcard games over the weekend? Wild is certainly an understatement. We had some crazy finishes, one blowout, a choking missed field goal, & some bonehead decisions. Hats off to the Chiefs for FINALLY winning a playoff game since 1993. On the flipside, Brian Hoyer of the Texans had one of the WORST quarterback performances I've seen in a NFL playoff game in all my 29 years. The Steelers/Bengals game was exactly what many of us predicted...nasty & extremely physical. But those final two minutes of the game was as ridiculous as it gets. Seriously, guys have to be better composed than that. Marvin Lewis, who's now 0-7 in the playoffs as head coach of Cincinnati, may not return next season. & I think he shouldn't. Much like ten years ago, Pittsburgh traveled to Cincinnati & drop another "L" on their bitter division rivals in the postseason. Fast-forward to Sunday, & Vikings kicker Blair Walsh has a few hits out on him from some fans. But the guy missed a 27-yard chip shot after making 3 longer field goals during the game. The Seahawks better be thanking Jesus. Adrian Peterson should be at fault, too, but we;ve seen this story before with him. & after getting off to a fast start, Redskins quarterback Kirk Cousins really can't say "YOU LIKE THAT?!"...at least until next year. The Packers, lead by Aaron Rodgers, take care of business & are now moving on. For the first time in NFL playoff history, all four road teams won this past weekend. That said, each of them now have even tougher missions next weekend. Join Rocket at a special date & time...Monday, evening, January 11 @ 6:30pm as he analyzes the games, the aftermath, & Marvin Lewis's fate status. "The Rocket Sports Breakdown" podcast on Blog Talk Radio is where you wanna be. Rocket Nation, get ready for another WILD power trip.

    Takeaways from NFL Wildcard Weekend

    in Sports

The opening weekend of the 2015 NFL Playoffs certainly put the wild in wildcard weekend with epic finishes to the games between the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Cincinnati Bengals as well as the game between the Seattle Seahawks and the Minnesota Vikings.  What are the main takeaways from each game and the weekend overall?  Why have the Green Bay Packers re-emerged as a team no one wants to face after quickly dispatching the upstart Washington Redskins? Should the Redskins re-sign Kirk Cousins? We'll look back at the whole wildcard proceedings.

Then, we'll look ahead and preview and predict the outcome of each game in the NFL Divisional Playoffs including what we think we'll be the upset special of the weekend that the NFL Divisional Playoffs are known for.

It's also a big week for the NFL in terms of the NFL owner's meetings in Houston regarding #NFL2LA.  This is the week we should know which stadium site between Inglewood and Carson is preferred by the league and which team or teams are coming.  We will have on a very special guest come on to break down day 1 of the 2-day owner's meetings.

Then, we'll react to the 2016 Major League Baseball Hall of Fame Class of Ken Griffey, Jr and Mike Piazza.

The 2015 NFL Playoffs are here and we are all over it for you.  Enjoy!

NFL Wildcard Weekend; who will advance?

    in Sports

After 17 weeks, the NFL playoffs begin this weekend. The wildcard round features two division winners and two wildcard teams from both divisions. As the playoffs begin, each team has a chance to advance to Super Bowl 50, in San Francisco. Since the inception of the wildcard, in 1970, only ten teams have reached the Super Bowl. However, six of the ten went on to win. The AFC has seen seven wildcard teams advance, while the NFC has seen three advance. The last wildcard team to play and win the Super Bowl were the 2010 Green Bay Packers.

The four wildcard hopefuls: Kansas City Chiefs, Pittsburgh Steelers, Green Bay Packers, and Seattle Seahawks. The Chiefs enter the playoffs red hot winning 10 straight games. The Steelers possibly boost one of the most explosive offensive units. The Seahawks are the two-time defending NFC champions, and the Packers played in the NFC Championship last year.

Each of these teams will play a division winner. The Houston Texans found a way to win the weak AFC South but will host the Chiefs in the first game on Saturday. AFC North rivals Cincinnati and Pittsburgh will square off for the third time, in Cincinnati. The Washington Redskins quietly emerged among the medicore teams in the NFC East and will host the Packers. Minnesota won their first division title, since 2009, and will host the Seahawks in frigid temperatures.

If you follow the betting odds, every wildcard team will advance to the divisional round. The latest odds come from FootballLOCKS.com http://www.footballlocks.com/nfl_odds.shtml. The Packers are a one point favorite, Kansas City and PIttsburgh are three point favorites, and the Seahawks are the largest favorite at five points.

Wednesday Night Tailgate: Wild Card Weekend

    in Sports

Twelve teams remain in the quest for the Vince Lombardi Trophy. The road to Santa Clara begins Saturday.

The AFC plays both games on Saturday. Kansas City puts its 10-game win streak on the line against the AFC South champion Houston Texans. Can the winner of this game get all the way to Super Bowl 50? How good is Kansas City?

Cincinnati and Pittsburgh could be the two best teams in the entire AFC. Can the Bengals finally win a playoff game? Are the Steelers ready for another run at the Super Bowl?

The NFC kicks off on Sunday. The Minnesota Vikings lost to the Seattle Seahawks 38-7 the last time they met in Minneapolis. Are the Vikings that much better? Do the Seahawks have enough left in the tank for a run at a third consecutive Super Bowl?

The final game this weekend pits Green Bay and Washington against each other. Have the injuries finally caught up to the Packers? Can the Redskins get up for another big home game against a quality opponent?

Find out my take on the first weekend of the NFL playoffs on the KD's Sports Arena podcast and call in with your opinions on Wednesday Night Tailgate.
