Join me as I speak with Alexis De Veaux: Author • Poet • Activist about her newest work of love, Yabo.
Alexis De Veaux was born and raised in Harlem, the product of two merging streams of black history in New York City-immigrants from the Caribbean on her mother’s side and migrants from North Carolina on her father’s side-who settled in Harlem in the early decades of the twentieth century. The second of eight children, that history was embedded in her mother’s view of life: “You got three strikes against you. You poor, you black, and you female.” But Alexis was drawn to the world of words and books and literature soon became the means by which she re-imagined the world her mother understood.
As an artist and lecturer she has traveled extensively in the United States, Canada, the Caribbean, Latin America, Japan, and Europe. Alexis published a second award-winning children’s book, An Enchanted Hair Tale (1987) before moving to Buffalo; where she finished graduate school, earning a doctorate in American Studies, in 1992. A project nearly ten years in the making, her biography of Audre Lorde, Warrior Poet (2004) has been the recipient of several awards, including the Gustavus Meyers Outstanding Book Award (2004), the Lambda Literary Award for Biography (2004), the Hurston/Wright Foundation Legacy Award, Non-fiction (2005). Her work is available in English, Spanish, Dutch, Japanese, and Serbo-Croatian.
With her new work, Yabo, Alexis has returned to her first love: writing fiction.
Did you know over a million US Veterans suffer from homelessness due to PTSD, financial difficulties, and lack of a support system? Post Traumatic Stress Disorder affects more than 5 million people, so chances are you know someone who suffers from this anxiety disorder. It can occur after an extreme emotional trauma that involved the threat of injury or death – from combat to a car accident. I was married to a Viet Nam vet who suffered from PTSD, so I experienced first-hand the crippling power of the anxiety and how it impacts a family. Back then, help wasn’t widely available. Alexis Werner of Pittsburgh, PA is dedicated to making change in the lives of others. After her step-father came home from Afghanistan with PTDS, she realized she could either be upset at her situation or do something to change it. She decided to create Seeds of Hope. Alexis was 15 years old and a high school freshman at the time. Seeds of Hope has 3 main projects: planting victory gardens to provide relaxation and tangible items for Veterans and their families; Our Way Home, a student-made documentary that follows the stories of 9 veterans from WW2-present day focusing on PTSD; and Seeds of Hope: The Beginning, a children's book focusing on the importance of community service, healthy eating, and veteran appreciation. Alexis graduated high school in June and received the Jefferson Award for Public Service and a $10K scholarship from the Anne Frank Foundation to be used for Temple Univ this fall. Clearly Alexis has some big plans for making the world a better place. After the interview, check After Hours at Jersey Coastal Live for more info.

Join us as we shine the spotlight on the world’s sauciest authors dedicated to the realms of BDSM, GLBT, and Erotica. Write On the Edge (or WOE) asks the questions few dare, but we all want the answers to. It pushes the limits and creates the standard of steamy, intelligent converse. But keep in mind. . . it’s called “Write on the Edge” for a reason. (aka This show is not for the faint of heart!)
This weeks’s Featured Author is . . . Ethan Stone is an author, gay man, father and grandfather (in no particular order). His attitude is “life changes when you don’t expect it. A recent job loss means more changes than I was ready to make so this bio will be a work in progress, just like my life”. He has alway loved to write and one point thought journalism was his dream career. He eventually accepted that writing because he had to was nowhere near as much fun doing it because he wanted to. Stories starring gay men have always been in his head but thought they would always be relegated to erotica websites. And then he discovered the wonderful world of M/M publishing.
You can buy all his books through his website, ETHAN'S WEBSITE

This week, Gene & Russell will be joined by the Executive Director of the Hispanic Leadership Fund, Mario H. Lopez to discuss recent policy conclusions that indicate skilled immigrants can stimulate economic growth for our nation.
The Institute for Policy Innovation has just released a report that concludes that that wages rise fastest in U.S. cities with the greatest influx of highly skilled immigrants. Findings indicate that U.S. cities with the greatest increase of immigrants specializing in the STEM professions (science, technology, engineering and math) between 1990 and 2010 saw an increase in wages for college-educated, native-born Americans by 7 percentage points, and 3 percentage points for the non-college-educated population. In other words, skilled immigrants are good for the economy AND for your pocketbook.

Did Aaron Alexis Really Contact FFCHS Before "Going Postal"? (11:00 pm ET)
Tonight, are we Targeted Individuals being set up by False Flags and government psyops with the goal of having us detained as potential terrorist under the NDAA (Instantaneous - Invisible - Indefinite Detention). In other words, make him/her dissappear from the face of the earth.
Several weeks after the 'Navy Yard Shooting', FFCHS (http://freedomfchs.com) was contacted by the FBI who informed an FFCHS represtative that Aaron Alexis had sent an email message to the advocacy group.
Was this true or are the 'powers that be' trying to connect Targeted Individuals to those perpetrators of domestic terrorist acts?
Did Tamerlan Tsarnaev, the older brother of the alleged Boston Marathon Boming duo really tell his mother he was being tormented with voices in his head? Would an accomplice in a CIA-orchestrated False Flag psyop really confide this type of information to someone as if they were the 'innocent' victim of some underserving affliction or torment?
So what do we have at this point? That the common denominator in these two domestic terrorism events is 'voices in the head!'
This is too convenient. This is too obvious. This is too much!
If you are aware of the increased persecution and targeting of individuals in society by this organized network of criminal gang stalkers, I hope you'll listen in and share this information with others.
