Take some time this week to remember your original happy hour: Saturday mornings as a kid, waking up at dawn, jumping on the couch with a bowl of chocolate cereal, turning on the ‘toons, tuning out the outside world, and working your way into a sugar hangover before noon. This week we flashback to the return of TNT and Steven Spielberg’s hit show Falling Skies last summer in recognition of the upcoming WonderCon (sorry WonderCon, but Star Wars Celebration is just too powerful a Force this season). Marke. walks us through what we may have missed and what we can expect with WonderCon round table interviews from many of the show’s stars, including Doug Jones (Hellboy, Pan’s Labyrinth), Sarah Carter (Final Destination 2, Smallville), Moon Bloodgood (Terminator Salvation, Eight Below), Seychelle Gabriel (The Last Airbender, The Spirit), and an exclusive interview with Connor Jessup. Heads up, Chicken Little.
Actress Katharine Houghton talks about her experience as a cast member in the groundbreaking movie Guess Who's Coming to Dinner, and film critic Mack Bates shares his picks for best movies about the African American experience. Guess Who's Coming to Dinner received 11 Oscar nominations and won two of them -- Best Picture and Best Actress. It also made a profound impact on the marketing of feature motion pictures in southern states. The 1967 film starred Sidney Poitier, Katharine Hepburn, Spencer Tracy and Katharne Houghton, who is Hepburn's niece. Houghton has appeared in other films including Kinsey, Ethan Frome, The Last Airbender and Billy Bathgate. She is also a successful playwright, popular lecturer, and award-winning stage actress. She won an Obie for her performance in Scent of Flowers and has played roles in over 50 regional theater productions. Bates has written freelance articles for the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel and serves as a staff blogger for Milwaukee Magazine's official film blog. He also received a local Emmy for his work on The Robert and Rosie Show. Co-host James Colt Harrison is a film historian who contributes film commentary to a variety of outlets.

Just like the often and incorrectly attributed Dragnet catchphrase-"Just the facts, ma'am"....we will try to make the show description brief! Welcome to The Grindhouse (Comic Shoppe+Afronerd Radio) broadcast airing this Saturday at 6 and 7pm, respectively. For The Comic Shoppe, join Dburt, Capt. Kirk and Daryll B. as they tackle the following subjects: more on the Sony hack (The Interview gets pulled, Idris as 007, Denzel gets slammed in an email, Andrew Garfield out as Spidey?); more on David Walker's take on Shaft, courtesy of Dynamite; in quest of a Black owned comic shop; Marvel' Comics editor-in-chief talk to CBS about the changes/diversity in Marvel characters; is there any hope for continued storylines relating to the Last Airbender series as the Legend of Korra series comes to a close?, and lastly, our thoughts on two new TV series, Netflix' Marco Polo and Syfy's Ascension.
And there's Afronerd Radio airing at 7pm. Join Dburt and Captain Kirk as they decipher the following "Da vinci coded" current event laden issues: much hyped racial discussion between The View's Whoopi Goldberg and Rosie O'Donnell; neo-soul artist, D'angelo releases his Black Messiah album after a 15 year absence; it appears that Bobby Shmurda's new audience will be behind bars (really?); after President Obama's historic political coup in renewing diplomatic relations with Cuba after 53 years of hostility-is he being "graded" fairly? and lastly, with VH-1's Sorority Sisters, cyberspace's lightskinordarkskin.com and a new Hip Hop themed restaurant serving "thug rice," is there no end to the minstrel industry onslaught? The Legend of Korra was supposed to be the successful spin-off of the popular animated series Avatar: The Last Airbender. For the first two seasons, it had done well. This season, however, went completely downhill, and the low ratings has caused Nickelodeon to pull the final four episodes. What went wrong with this season to cause the sudden cancellation? We'll discuss what happened in the series' sudden downward spiral.
