World Kitchen Presents Wedding Day Radio: Therez Fleetwood

    in Women

Call it Ken-do attitude. “I started dressing my Barbie dolls when I was 10 years old,” bridal designer Therez Fleetwood, who’d go on to create the only Afrocentric costumes ever worn by Mickey and Minnie Mouse at Walt Disney World, tells Wealthy Sistas host Deborah Hardnett. “So my mother sent me to sewing school. But I wasn’t a big fan of that, and quit after three months. Then my mother bought me a sewing machine, but I didn’t do anything with it for about three years. Then something hit me and I took it out one day and started sewing non-stop. I’ve been at it ever since.”

    I AM DAN ROODT

    in Politics Conservative

Dan Roodt is an Afrikaner author and intellectual who also worked for some time in the financial markets. He was born in the late fifties in Springs, a city just east of Johannesburg where he also went to primary school. He has spent most of his adult life in Johannesburg, apart from a stint in Paris where he learnt French and became in his own words, "more Europeanised than most South Africans, although my roots are in Africa, in our wonderful sunny country which has been so manhandled these past few decades"

He holds a PhD in Afrikaans language and literature, but also comments regularly in the media and on the website praag.org on South African politics and society. In 2005 he published a popular book critical of the current South African government called The Scourge of the ANC. More recently he has written on South Africa's English identity, as well as penning a preface to the South African edition of Jared Taylor's White Identity: Racial Consciousness in the 21st Century. Most of his books are available on praag.org.

Since February 2000 when he founded the Pro-Afrikaans Action Group (PRAAG) he has campaigned actively for the retention of Afrikaans and Western culture in South Africa, against the Afrocentric, leftist, cultural-Marxist hegemony in South Africa. He has also been in the forefront of protesting against the ongoing violence shaking South Africa and which some have qualified as a genocide, killing 500 000 people in twenty years and leading to the rape of most of the female population in the country. Farmers are particularly hard-hit, with 4000 being murdered in often horrible ways in South Africa.

In 2015 Dr. Roodt's organisation, PRAAG, will launch a class action law suit against the South African government for the loss of life it has overseen over the last twenty years, as well as writing more books and translating at least one book from French.

The Community of Self - Dr Na'im Akbar - Clinical Psychologist

    in Psychology

After a grand jury in Ferguson,Missouri voted not to indict police officer Darren Wilson in the killing of Michael Brown and the protesting that followed we decided that revisiting Dr.Na’im Akbar’s book,The Community of Self, would be in order.
"The Community of Self talks about yourself, myself and ourselves. The context is the African-American experience, not to reduce the generalizability of the concepts to one group of people, but because this is my cultural context. The African-American experience stands as one of the strongest examples of high human principles being able to endure despite environments of extreme opposition, and there is instruction in what we can offer the world about being human. Because of the seriousness of the assault on the African-American,our situation is also precarious. We need the attention of our thinkers for ourselves.
We need to restore our communities and to understand and develop our communities of self. We need assistance in correction some serious problems in our psychology, our education, our economics, our families and our religious thinking. The Community of Self addresses all of these areas. It is intended to provoke thought and action. It is intended to stimulate an improved understanding of who we are, what we are and our potential to be something valuable to the world as we have been before and are destined to be again."Dr.Na'Im Akbar
Na'im Akbar, Ph.D. is a Clinical Psychologist at Florida State University. He is a prominent lecturer, author and recognized expert on the Psychology of Africans Americans.A graduate of the University of Michigan, Dr. Akbar has served as a professor of psychology at Morehouse College and at Norfolk State University.
Community of Self is Akbar's fifth book related to the issue of a holistic human psychology and an increased understanding of the African-American experience from an Islamic and an Afrocentric perspective.
