ADHD & Companion Conditions: A Journey of Self-Discovery

    in Self Help

As is the case with many people with ADHD, Charley Burt is successful, smart, funny, and compassionate. But she doesn’t just have ADHD. Companion conditions typically co-exist with ADHD, and in Charley’s case, her special genetic make-up includes Hashimoto's Thyroiditis, Fibromyalgia, and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome as well.

In our conversation we also touch on how familial suicide has impacted both of us and fueled our passion to share with others the struggles involved in all forms of mental illness.

You’ll surely enjoy Charley’s warmth and good nature as you listen to her share stories of self-discovery and self-disclosure mindful that these are both still a work in progress. She’s untangling what’s what. Considering that all of her, as she calls them, acronyms, have overlapping symptoms, determining what physical ailment is contributing to which mental issue is a puzzle she’s determined to solve.

In fact, through the encouragement of a geneticist, she is in the process of setting up genetic mutation testing through 23andme! Personally, I can’t wait to find out what more information she’ll find out and share. She’s promised to come back and give us an update but don’t wait until then. For more about her journey go to embracingadultadhd.wordpress.com and subscribe. She writes almost every day something about her ADHD and its effects on her life and relationships.

You can reach her on Twitter @CharleyBurt1 or visit her blog.

"Why's the Spatula Behind the Couch?" & Other ADHD Questions

    in Self Help

Replay * How do you feel when people ask, "Doesn't everybody have ADHD?" It's a question often considered insulting by people with ADHD; after all, the answer is obviously no and it belittles the diagnosis, insinuating that ADHD isn't real.

But is it always intended to deny ADHD's legitimacy? What if the person asking the question believes it's real because even his own son has it?

In this episode, we explore this topic and talk out loud the process of answering the questions found on the Adult ADHD Self-Report Scale (ASRS-v1.1) Symptom Checklist.

What does it mean if you don't fit neatly into the box of ADHD or non-ADHD? Listen and find out.

    Scoping Fun, ADHD Style!

    in Self Help

Rene Brooks and I were pow-wowing recently about how difficult it can be to work so hard creating structure in your ADHD world, focus on productivity, only to realize that you haven't been having much fun. Unfortunately, you can even try to have fun and accidentally go too far the other way, destroying all of the systems you've worked so hard to create. Where's the balance?

Mind you, I don't believe we actually answered that question but we did have fun talking about it.

Please excuse the sound quality as the seven of us from FB's See in ADHD group attempt to have a discussion in a Zoom Room while livestreaming on Periscope.

    How's that for multi-tasking?

Next time, won't you join us? Email me at Jennie@SeeinADHD.com to find ut how you can participate in an upcoming show.

Meanwhile, you are invited to join the gang on FB in our fun closed group See in ADHD, we'd love to meet you.

    Vertical Heterophoria: Exposed in ADHD

    in Self Help

In a previous episode, Dr. Cheryl Berger-Israeloff, brought awareness to an affliction that may not be well known, yet, affects between 5 - 10% of the population and is showing up in the ADHD population. It's a type of Binocular Vision Disorder called Vertical Heterophoria. Perhaps the link has to do with the  deregulation of another of our body's systems?

Symptoms include dizziness, headaches, blurred vision, imbalance, neck aches, eye pain...the list goes on and many eye doctors don't even know about it.

Be sure and visit Dr. Cheryl, Dr. Kathy, and Dr. Debby at www.nvcofny.com where you'll find more information and a link to a test you can easily take online.

In this episode, after Rene Brooks took the 5 minute cover test, that you can perform on yourself at home, she found Dr. Kathryn Collins in PA.

You too, may be a candidate for special prism glasses, which alleviate all of the symptoms of Vertical Heterophoria without medication!

Here are links: Dr. Cheryl Berger-Israeloff    Dr. Kathryn Collins     Dr. Debby Feinberg

ADHD with a Splash of Southern Charm

    in Self Help

I bet ya'll will agree with me that Whitney McCloud is one of the most charming people to listen to. She's the creator of craftingforpurpose.com a blog dedicated to the things that interest her: crafting, writing, connecting with others, helping people, and ADHD.

She's as passionate as she is authentic and is also completely surprised at the overwhelmingly positive responses she's received since beginning her venture only a few short months ago!

Whitney is a devoted wife and mother as well as an ambitious homebased entrepreneur: writing a book, maintaining a blog, making jewelry, scrapbooking, cake decorating, and more. Yet, she holds her audience in the highest regard making certain to take time everyday helping promote her fanbase by retweeting their posts on Twitter. (You know, it'd be rude not to.)

I hope you join me in joining them, her fans, I ceratinly have become one!

Be sure to shoot her a Tweet @craft4purpose or follow her on Facebook and subscribe to her blog CraftingforPurpose.com.

I welcome you to subscribe to See in ADHD talk radio where you can let others know what you think of the show by giving your rating and review through iTunes or leave your comments at www.seeinadhd.com. You can also access the show through Stitcher.

Understanding ADHD Better & Other ADHD Mumbo Jumbo

    in Self Help

Meet the compassionate genius behind the website and podcast Generosity Philosophy and creator of George the Generous Giraffe. Kim Trumbo shares with us her interests, frustrations, and other "works in progress". She also gives us a peek into her world where understanding why she does the things she does, in the way she does them, has been an on-going process for her and her family.

Figuring out how to more effectively communicate with your spouse, when one has ADHD and the other doesn't, requires patience and time. One example among her many engaging stories helps us see how even after being repeatedly told what to do to keep track of her keys, it wasn't until she felt a resonnance with others in the ADHD community that she was able to finally devise her own unique system ... one that, ironically, wasn't much different than that original spouse-suggested one.

As for what we can expect from Kim next, well...one can never be entirely certain, but it seems like it's going to rhyme with gumbo!

Visit Kim online at www.generosityphilopsophy.com   Twitter @GpPodcast or
