    Format: Shellac, 10", 78 RPM

    Released: 1947

     Genre: Jazz Pop

    Style: Novelty

This song, written and performed by blind pianist Glen Hurlburt and orchestra,

Was released at a time when some local politicos were considering scrapping many of the cable car lines.

    Show 200

Have a historic 78 RPM and story you want to share with my listeners?  Contact me at:  www.Facebook.com/s3productions2. I welcome your thoughts, comments, and suggestions at oscssw@juno.com. I am trying to preserve the largely ignored original analog sound of the old 78 records, plus learn some music history along the way

Herb Caen, San Francisco's foremost newspaper columnist, rumored it. Roger Lapham, San Francisco's "infrequently beloved" businessman mayor, confirmed it. Friedel Klussmann, the President of the San Francisco Federation of the Arts, stopped it.

The issue was a simple one; should San Francisco in 1947 keep the city-owned Powell Street cable cars running? In this environment Glen Hurlburt, a blind pianist, penned his "Cable Car Concerto." A concert orchestra played the "Cable Car Concerto." Hurlburt's "Concerto" cleverly takes us on round trip ride on the Powell-Mason cable from Market Street to the Fisherman's Wharf and back. Enjoy!

The 2016 Election: A Clown Car Or A Coronation?

    in Politics Progressive

The media is excited about the 2016 election: A day doesn't go by without a breathless report about the possible candidacies of Jeb Bush, Rand Paul, Ted Cruz and other Republicans. But what about the Democrats? Hillary Clinton is all but coronated as the nominee, with many progressives trying to draft Elizabeth Warren (who says she's not running) and only Bernie Sanders talking seriously about opposing her. MOMocrats Cynthia Liu and Donna Schwartz Mills both feel an uncontested primary is bad for the party and the country -- but for very different reasons. Also: a report on ESEA, the reauthorization of the law formerly known as No Child Left Behind Political discussion from the progressive point of view by the MOMocrats. Produced by Engender Media Group.

ROAD RAGE: Killing in the Streets

    in Current Events

Road Rage is defined as aggressive driving that arises from disagreements with other drivers while driving. When a driver gets angry or loses their temper from a traffic incident, it is also considered road rage. What is it about getting into a car and driving that turns your sweet mother into raving maniac? Is it really that serious? Apparently it is because people are being killed simply because they cut someone off.
