Love Dare Radio - Day 21 - Love Is Satisfied In God

    in Religion

On this episode of Love Dare Radio we will be recaping day 20 and looking ahead to day 21!

    Today’s Dare

Be intentional today about making time to pray and read your Bible.  Try reading a chapter out of Proverbs each day (there are thirty-one – a full month’s supply), or reading a chapter in the Gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John).  As you do, immerse yourself in the love and promises God has for you.  This will add to your growth as you walk with Him.

You open Your hand and satisfy the desire of every living thing.  (Psalm 145:16)

Hi listeners and welcome to a very special edition of Weekdays with Murph.  Today, we celebrate our 3 year anniversary.  Did I just really say that?!  Three years...wow.  I cannot believe we've gotten to this point, it seems like 5 minutes ago I was dialing in to the studio for the first time.  Anyway, we're welcoming back several past guests to update us on what they've been up to since we spoke with them.  As always, I have my lovely and talented co-host Emily with me, so let's get this party started!

WOMEN, PROTECTION ORDERS, AND THE REAL COSTS TO VICTIMS

You’ve experienced violence from your partner, and everyone is telling you to get a protection order. Sounds right. The legal aid representative tells you how to proceed, it might help, and it doesn’t cost anything. Or does it?

Two researchers looked at whether getting a protection order had any impact on women’s earnings, and their findings may be a shock. And those findings covered six years of women’s earnings. Free to get a protection order? Think again.

Melanie M. Hughes and Lisa D. Brush join us to look at their research and what it told them about women’s financial picture after getting a protection order. Hughes is Associate Professor of Sociology at the University of Pittsburgh. She uses quantitative approaches to study women’s empowerment, often focusing on groups of women who are particularly marginalized. She is coauthor of Women, Politics, and Power: A Global Perspective (3rd Edition forthcoming with CQ Press). Her research has been published in journals such as American Sociological Review, American Political Science Review, and Social Forces.

Brush is Professor of Sociology and of Gender, Sexuality, and Women’s Studies at the University of Pittsburgh. Her first book was Gender and Governance (Rowman and Littlefield 2003), and her second book was Poverty, Battered Women, and Work in U.S. Public Policy (Oxford University Press 2011). Her current research looks at preventing adolescent relationship abuse and teen dating violence by engaging high school and middle school boys in coached athletic programs to change masculinities.

The Wrath of God - Part 3

    in Religion

Ever heard the old saying, “Do as I say, but not as I do”? In other words, people who say it, say it to those they’re in authority over. In most cases, this would be a parent/child relationship where the child would probably see the parent do something that was wrong or contradictory to what they were told NOT to do.

Unfortunately, this line of thinking has carried itself over from our homes into most of our churches and pulpits today. In other words, hypocrisy has become the new normal and most preachers fail to practice what they preach.

But, before you and I shake our heads in disgust and point our fingers at the preacher, it’ll behoove us to do some self examination of our talk as well as our walk.

Pastor Woods explains in part 3 of his series, “The Wrath of God”, taken from Romans chapter 2 verses 17 through 29.

Part 3 of series: America ruled by Moderates/Compromisers

    in Politics Conservative

    PROGRAM TIME: 8AM-10AM EST

Jump "In the Pickle Barrel" as we complete one of the most interactive series of the year. We will begin the morning finishing our look at a  "Liberal America" and then move on to America ruled by Moderates and Compromisers. Many people say we are in the latter form of governance right now. Are we? My reply to these folks is, "Not hardly!" The citizens of America want some changes made. Will changes take place? What changes will be made? Who will lead us to change? What part will "We, the People of the United States" play in making these changes.

Join the discussions in the online Chat Room or share your thoughts live on air by calling 855-236-2486. Maybe we can find the way out of the huge Pickle Barrel we are sharing.

    Into the Cosmos! Wk 21

    in Soccer

This week on #IntotheCosmos, your hosts Ej Garr and Frank Dell'Apa get us prepared for the weekend match at Tampa Bay's Al Lang Stadium, and rewind the month of August that saw the Cosmos take points in all seven matches on the schedule.

Our interviews this week are fantastic, with two experienced players from both the NY Cosmos and the Tampa Bay Rowdies.

Adam Moffat, long time MLS veteran and Scotland native joins us to discuss the season and his transition to a sweeper role of late, which he relishes in helping the defense, while still having the ability to push and score timely goals when called upon.

The Rowdies' Juan Guerra also joins us and discusses becoming the first signing with the team when they reformed in the NASL, while celebrating their 40th year as an organization in 2015.

Enjoy this week's show, and thank you for tuning in.
