This week on Scottscope Talk Radio, we take a look at Kevin Hart’s new concert film, Kevin Hart: Let Me Explain.  Is it as good as Eddie Murphy: Raw?  Is Kevin in the same league as Eddie?  Is he even in the same league as Martin Lawrence?  Does selling out Madison Square Garden put him in the same weight class as others who’ve done so?  Just what is driving his immense popularity?  If he’s able to sell out the Garden, why hasn’t he crossed over to the White mainstream yet?  Is he comedy’s best kept secret?  Is he poised for a breakthrough of epic proportions?

We’ll also be taking a cursory glance at the history of Black stand-up comedy, from Richard Pryor to Kevin Hart and beyond.  Does Richard still stand as the greatest of all time?  Did he get lapped by Eddie Murphy?  Should Rudy Ray Moore be mentioned as one of the all-time greats?  Did Steve Harvey, Bernie Mac, D.L. Hughley, and Cedric the Entertainer actually earn the title “Kings of Comedy?”  Would Robin Harris have become a contender for the comedy crown had he lived?  Did Bernie Mac bite his steez?  Is Paul Mooney the single greatest comedy writer of all time?  Was Patrice O’Neal  poised for stardom before his passing?
