The book is a story about her journey from a well to do up bringing and lifestyle to living in her car with her children, eventually falling in to the shelter system, living there for years, then improving her life and getting her degree along with her children; and De Norval Parks, the author of "Sheltered", and single father of three sons, tells his story about keeping his family together while navigating them through the harsh life of the shelter system. What happened to these two guests could happen to anybody.
