Rick Crane, an Upstate New York privete eye in the mold of Sam Spade and Jim Rockford, is having his morning coffee when he's approached by Bill Cooper, the distraught father of a young girl who was murdered. The police have quickly shuffled the case to the back of the Unsolved Crimes file, and Cooper has asked Rick to find out what really happened.
Rick feels sorry for the old man, and agrees to look into it, unsure of what he's getting himself into.
