Van Hunt, the Grammy Award-winning singer/songwriter/producer has announced his fifth studio album The Fun Rises, TheFun Sets to be released May 5th via Nashville-based Thirty Tigers and Hunt's own label godless-hotspot. Like its predecessor - 2011's What Were You Hoping For?, which The New York Times hailed as "ambitious and exciting" - The Fun Rises, The FunSets is enticingly adventurous. Of the album Van Hunt states: ""The drive to create something new and different is what keeps me excited and engaged as an artist. It's the thrill of appearing with The Afghan Whigs at Coachella and then performing at a gospel quartet music special all in the same week. The excitement is in constantly evolving as an artist. It's how I got from my first album,Van Hunt (alternative soul, electro-funk music influenced by Prince and The Ohio Players), to my last album What Were You Hoping For?, which was Bowie-influenced, progressive rock and soul." Full of African rhythms, blues and funk, the new album is full of contemporary components often found in the music of St. Vincent, James Blake, Dev Hynes and FKA Twigs. "It is the history of Black- American music filtered through modern technology," explains Hunt.

Today you can hear the first single off the album "Vega (stripes on)," a percolating, lusty track that simmers with jangly Howlin' Wolf-style guitars closed with a short rhyme reminiscent of early Raekwon. Pre-order the album now and check out the track above.
