"Making a Difference while Making a Living"

In the selfish world we live in, a lot of us are consumed with our own needs (and greed), and are all about self, all the time. Some of us have mastered the art of tuning out the needs of others, ignoring the problems of our fellowman and not valuing people and relationships as we should. However, there are others that have learned the effective balance of tending to our own needs while choosing to help others, even when it may not be convenient, fit the budget, or add to the bottomline. There are a lot of causes that need our help from the various public safety, family, health & disease issues that affect our local, national, and global communities, to the severe and ongoing rebuilding efforts in New Orleans, after hurricane Katrina, and in Haiti after the earthquake. Should we all make an effort to get involved in some form of charity at some level? What kind of world could we have if all us would make a choice to help someone other than ourselves on a consistent basis?
