The Milwaukee Brewers ended a 25-year playoff drought, in 2008, and this also may have ended a deep farm system. As the Brewers struggled to make the playoffs, they were grooming names in the minor leagues that would eventually play a key role on that 2008 team. Ryan Braun, Prince Fielder, Corey Hart, J.J. Hardy, Rickie Weeks, and Bill Hall all played over 100 games. Ben Sheets started 31 games; Manny Parra started 29, and a young Yovani Gallardo started four games. Each of them was drafted by the Brewers and developed in the farm system.

Nearly ten years later, the Brewers are trying to find a core of players that can lead them back to the playoffs. They have started this rebuilding process by bringing up some young players to get experience. The average age of the Brewers is 27.9 years, and only three teams (Phillies, Rays, Diamondbacks) have younger rosters.

MLB posts their Top 100 prospect list http://m.mlb.com/prospects/2016/?list=prospects and the Milwaukee Brewers have five players on this list:

#4 - Orlando Arcia is the Brewers top prospect. He is a 21-year-old shortstop playing AAA for the Colorado Springs Sky Sox

#29 - Brett Phillips is a 21-year-old outfielder, currently playing AA for the Biloxi Shuckers

#53 - Jorge Lopez is a 23-year-old right-handed pitcher playing AAA for the Colorado Springs Sky Sox

#57 - Josh Hader is a 22-year-old left-handed pitcher playing AA for the Biloxi Shuckers

#79 - Trent Clark is a 17-year-old outfielder playing A for the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers

On a side note, the only other player to appear in 100 games, on the 2008 playoff team was current manager Craig Counsel. Listen in and call the show with your thoughts about the Brewers farm system.
