Radio Angola: The systematic violation of human rights in Angola

Radio Angola-a radio without borders will host a debate about the systematic violation of human rights in Angola. The debate will be broadcast live at 6 pm this Friday, October 31, 2014. According to Freedom House, Angola Freedom in the World 2013 Report, Angola is “Not Free,” The Human Rights Watch 2014-World Report, the ruling Popular Movement for the Liberation of Angola (MPLA) led by Jose Eduardo dos Santos who has been in power for 35 years, has “intensified repressive measures to restrict freedom of expression, association and assembly in 2013.” The most recent U.S. Department of State, “Country Reports on Human Rights Practices for 2013,” highlights the most important human rights abuses committed by Angolan government. As they put it, “the three most important human rights abuses were cruel, excessive, and degrading punishment, including reported cases of torture and beating as well as unlawful killings by police and other security personnel; limits on freedoms of assembly, association, speech, and press; official corruption and impunity.”
