This episode we'll discuss the impact of what is termed the Bennett Freeze 1.5 million acres encompassing (9) nine Communities, known as Chapters spanning the Western Portion of the Navajo Nation. The impacted region is along the Eastern Rim of the Grand Canyon in particular the Bodaway Gap Chapter which has the largest landmass impacted by the Freeze. It's important to note the Bodaway Gap Chapter area is a sacred site, cwhere the Main Stem Colorado and Little Colorado Rivers converge (a place of emergence for many tribal people).
Raymond D. Yellowman, President of the Bodaway Gap Chapter and Bennett Freeze Rehabilitation Advocate will share his personal experiences and background knowledge of the act that deprived his ancestors and many generations the right to live and prosper like the dominant society.
