Did you move to the suburbs with a promise of a cheap commute to the city? Then gasoline and train fare costs increased equal to a second car note? Where you promised that you'd get so much more than city living for so much cheaper? Haven't moved to the burbs yet? Well if you're running from hillbillies and gangbangers, you might want to think twice about moving to the suburbs. Guess who's moving in the foreclosed house next door? Long term residents saying the neighborhood is going down, despite the half million dollar homes that are sprouting up everywhere. What's so bad about black professionals moving in the neighborhood?... and here we go again, WHITE FLIGHT. Vacant big box stores, vacant failed chain stores, weeds overtaking empty car lots, unoccupied strip malls, and as a result, homeowners being shaken down and turned upside down for higher property taxes. Where's the ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT GRANTS, Community Block Grants, and enterprise Empowerment Zones for the suburbs? Middle class suburbia wants a subsidy! When the heck is someone going to pick up all this road kill stinking up the road? Put it back in the budget! And I thought public land like county forest preserves, couldn't be sold to developers? What's with all the FOR SALE signs on our public woodlands and prairie lands? Can suburbanites afford water, and natural gas heat? Childcare costs 100% - 300% MORE in the burbs, with little subsidies and flexible times for working class moms. The economic downturn has lead to overcrowded lines at the food pantry, and have left suburbanites surviving off hot dogs and grits to pay for subsidies and services....in the city.
