Press Release Jan 16, Scientology Sponsors Charter Flight to Haiti to Provide Medical Care and Disaster Relief Church of Scientology Organizes ......Charter Flight from JFK to Port-au-Prince to Bring Doctors and Relief Workers to Help in theAftermath of the Haitian Earthquake NEW YORK (January 16, 2010)—The first of a series of charter flights organized by the Church of Scientology leaves JFK International Airport for Haiti Saturday to provide urgently needed help in the wake of the7.0 magnitude earthquake that hit the island on January 12. The 737will bring some 50 medical doctors from the Association of Haitian Physicians Abroad (Association des Medecins Haitiens a l’Etranger), tendoctors and healthcare professionals from the 9/11 Foundation, andScientology Volunteer Ministers from New York and Tampa, Florida toPort-au-Prince, where casualties are highest. In addition to this charter flight, to help compensate for thevirtually non-existent medical facilities in Port-au-Prince , severalScientology churches are providing large yellow tents, which will serveas field hospitals and trauma relief and grief counseling centers. Teams of Scientology Volunteer Ministers from throughout the U.S. ,Mexico and as far away as Paris are preparing to leave for Haiti assoon as transportation has been arranged. They will help with the search and rescue operation, provide administrative and organizational support to the medical teams, distribute supplies and provide trauma relief and grief counseling to the victims and their families. The Scientology Volunteer Ministers Corps is an embracive program ofthe Church of Scientology to provide community service, disaster reliefand emergency response. Created more than 30 years ago the program has expanded to 203,000 Volunteer Ministers worldwide who have served at 126 worst-case disaster sites,including Ground Zero after 9/11, the Southeast Asia tsunami and Hurricane Katrina.
