The Christ of Zephaniah

Jesus alluded to Zephaniah's writings on two occasions (Zep.1:3; Mt.13:41 and Zep.1:15; Mt.24:29). Both of these passages about the Day of the Lord are associated with Christ's Second Advent. Although the Messiah is not specifically mentioned in Zephaniah, it is clear that He is the One who will fulfill the great promises of 3:9-20. He will gather His people and reign in victory: "The Lord has taken away your judgments; He has cast out your enemy. The king of Israel, the Lord, is in your midst; you shall see disaster no more" (3:15).
