Ohmkara, meaning the sound of OHM (or sounds of divinity), is a creation of Maetreyii and Lokesh Deacon, based in Queensland, Australia. They perform music that connects the Love that lies deeply within us through mantra, kiirtan, meditative, and devotional songs. Maetreyii is originally from Japan and is trained in classical piano and traditional Japanese singing, Shigin. Maetreyii shares her angelic voice and piano while supported by her multi-instrumentalist husband, Lokesh. He plays a variety of ethnic instruments such as Japanese flutes, hand pan drum, bansuri flutes, drums, and guitar. Their sounds are a fusion of oriental and classical sounds.
Ohmkara has been sharing their heartfelt music since 2004 when they travelled and performed together on a tour around Europe. During that tour they shared their music at yoga and meditation retreats as well as sharing their music in service at hospitals, refugee centers, detention centers and senior homes.
Ohmkara performs at devotional music circles at yoga and meditation retreats around Australia.
Ohmkara’s performances include a variety of music such as kiirtans, mantras, songs in Bengali, Japanese and English with accompaniments ranging from keyboard, guitar and ethnic instruments.
