The Democrats in the US have approved billions of dollars worth of humanitarian aid for migrants at the us/Mexico border. It's unclear whether the bill fwill now pass in the Republican-controlled Senate, and President Trump has threatened to veto it. The bill comes as concerns grow over the situation in migrant detention centers in the Us with reports of children being kept in squalid conditions. Harrowing photos of a drowned migrant father and his infant daughter have also focused the country's attention on the plight of those trying to reach the US from Mexico.

The father and daughter who drowned trying to escape horrible conditions in their country were turned away from the U S border because only a certain amount of immigrants can cross daily. The immigrants are asked to wait on the Mexican side while the U S processes their applications for asylum. Sometimes it takes months and even years for their applications to be processed.

Most times when adults and children are allowed to cross over, they end up separated. It's being said that the migrants are not given toothpaste or soap.

Two hundred and eighty three people died in 2018 trying to cross over to the United States.
