The celebration of All Saints is an affirmation of the One Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church. The message is that there is a Church of the past and a Church of the future. There is a Church on this earth which is inside the limits of our time and space dimensions and there is a Church of heaven which is outside the boundaries of our time and space dimensions. The key to our understanding is the lives of all those who have ever lived; all those who have died; and those who in Christ will be raised up from the dead to live forever. They will not die against for in Christ they are saved from the second death. All Days Day is a commemoration of those who gave their lives to Christ and died in Him. For our part we are exhorted not to forget the blessed death but to "recall them to life" through our memory. In memory a person never dies, only in forgetfulness. The rites, rituals and ceremonies of All Saints day indicate encounter between then and now; between life and death; between ourselves and those who went before us. That is why on Christianchurchradio.com I am playing Gregorian chants all this week.
