Service Women's Action Network (SWAN)is a national human rights organization with a mission is to support, defend, and empower today’s servicewomen and women veterans of all eras, through groundbreaking advocacy initiatives and innovative, healing community programs.

Our vision is to transform military culture by securing equal opportunity and the freedom to serve in uniform without the threat of harassment, discrimination, intimidation or assault, and securing quality health care and equal benefits for women veterans and their families. In addition, use legislative reform, litigation, public education, and the National Peer Support Helpline to advocate for awareness and reform on many issues, including Women in Combat, Military Sexual Violence and Domestic Violence, VA Health Care and Benefits, Reproductive Rights and LGBT Rights.

Our values as a human rights organization are to:

  • Tackle issues and challenge institutions that deny equal opportunities, equal protections and equal benefits to service members and veterans

  • Inclusively approach we take is pivotal to healing the various forms of discrimination and violence faced by women in the military, including sexism, racism, and homophobia
  • Give a voice, agency and opportunity to women veterans, regardless of the context, era, or type of their service
  • Encourage women veterans as they design, supervise and lead SWAN’s programs, in order to foster a sense of belonging, ownership, and community and to build personal skills that increase leadership experience, self-sufficiency, healing and well-being
