Elizabeth Bradfield author of "Interpretive Work" is the first book in a new imprint established by Red Hen Press in Southern California to publish literary works of high quality by lesbian writers. Bradfield has said she wants her book "to challenge the idea of queerness as not 'natural.' " Her work is clearly in conversation with queer theory, which critiques how heterosexuality is socially constructed so that it's seen as "natural" - an argument that implies any other variety of human sexuality is "unnatural." Queer theory argues that it's society, rather than nature, that defines what's acceptable.
