Margaret Dixon is a retired Oakland police officer after spending 25 years serving the community in which she grew up.Margaret believes that everyone should take the time out of their schedule to give back to the community, and that is exactly what she has done for over 30 years. It was during her years as a police officer that Margaret founded the Oakland Police Activities League (PAL) Track and Field Team, and since then, the program has grown to be one of the largest youth track clubs in the Bay Area.

Currently, Margaret Dixon is an instructor in the Administration of Justice program at Merritt College. She has helped grow the program to over 200 students a semester and has expanded the program by adding a Homeland Security certificate of achievement, and a Security Guard card course. In response to the needs of the community, Margaret collaborated with retired Oakland Police Chief Howard Jordan to create a Law Enforcement Pre-Academy course to respond to the recruitment needs of local law enforcement agencies.

In 2011, Margaret Dixon received the Jefferson award.  The Jefferson award recognizes a community member who has volunteered numerous hours in the community and has gone above and beyond to make a difference.

Howard Jordan has a professional background in law enforcement and rose through the ranks to serve as Chief of Police for the City of Oakland. He is a proven leader amongst law enforcement and security force professionals and has demonstrated expertise in developing and implementing goals, objectives, policies, priorities, and has been an effective steward of budgets as large as $166M. During his tenure in the Oakland Police Department, Jordan’s goal was to forge a stronger Department and healthier community.
