THEOLOGICAL THEMES IN THE GOSPEL:
Luke Provides a historical backing to the Christian Message that will strengthen existting faith and also lead to new faoith. ( Lk 1:1-4 ).
1. God and his Purpose, God is active in this history and takes the initiative through his various agents and other means. A Divine Plan is being put into effect, prophesied in the Scriptures (cf. Lk 1:69-70, 73-75) and involving Jesus in obedience to a destiny that he must fulfill.
2. what has been prophesied will be fufilled because the ultimate author of the prophecies has the ability to fulfill them. consequently various events take place "as it is written" ( Lk 3:4; 7:27; 18:31; 22:37; 24:46-47). God's Plan constrains Jesus to obedience that involves suffering ( Lk 2:49; 4:43; 13:16; 17:25; 22:37; 24:7, 26, 44 ).
3 A People In Need of salvation : Luke's story is concerned with the renewal of the people of Israel, many of whom have fallen away from their God and turned themselves into sinners (Lk 1:16 )
