STUDIES IN THE BOOK OF MATTHEW.

1. The manifestom Of the Teacher.  ( Matthew 4:12-7:29)

2. The Sermon On The Mount  (Mt. 5-7)

3. The Kingdom Of Heaven / To those who are poor in spirit and are persecuted for the sake of righteousnes. ( Mat 5:3, 10 )

4. the Law remins in force for jesus Jewish audience. ( mat 5:17-20 ) But it is the Law  reinterpreted by him that is now to be kept.  All other Commandments, all taken from the Law, are lifted up to a higher level; if some of them ar4e made redundant ( e.g., Mat 5:38-39), they still remain in force as a kind of safety net.

5.  Teaching about God's goodness and his providential care as the heavely Father encourages the disciples to trust in him (Mt 6:8, 25-34).  Jesus consistently teaches that nGod is related as Father only to disciples and not to people in general. The relationship is spiritual rather than being base on creation.

6. God's Goodness is seen in his answers to prayer and good  gifts to his children ( Mat 711 )

7. It is essential to obey then Words of Jesus, here equated with the will of God (Mat 7:21-27 )  discipleship is a matter of obedience and not just of faith.

8. The Sermon juxtaposes total faith in thye goodness of God, who answers prayer, and total obedience to his will.  it does nt relax God's commandments but raises them to a higher plane of fulfulment, which goes beyond simply obeying the letter of the law.

9. It is essntial to obey the Words of jesus hetre equated with the will of God ( Mat 7:21-27).  Discipleship is a matter of obedience and not just faith.
