But their eyes were holden that they should not know him (Luke 24:16). This scripture along with many others make the point that God for various reasons hides himself. Here we see Jesus pointing to the scripture as an explanation of all that had occurred. Then he said unto them, O fools, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken:(24:25) . And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself (24:27). So we see that although these men knew the scriptures they did not believe them and as a result they were confused. Knowing the truth did them no good as they didn't believe it, as written of those in Hebrews 4:2 For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them: but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard [it].
