Self-image... why so much rage, when we are embarrassed?

No matter how we esteeem others, we have a real high opinion of our self.  Let a little pride and arrogance sneank back in and all of a sudden I can't "hang with that crowd", I can't go the city mission, I can't be seen... taking orders... I am a boss...

Wonder how full hell is of people who thought self-image mattered?
