Curtis Bean served as a U.S. Army sniper during two tours of duty in Iraq. He returned to the U.S. after active duty he suffered from undiagnosed PTSD, and attempted to self-medicate using alcohol. After receiving an appropriate PTSD diagnosis, Curtis completed the Denver Veterans Administration (“VA”) Medical Center’s seven-week inpatient PTSD program in January 2013. He is now extremely active in the veterans’ community, giving art classes to veterans through the VA and Denver Vet Center. Mr. Bean also established a non-profit organization called Art of War to promote art therapy for veterans.
Curtis uses marijuana to alleviate symptoms of PTSD and believes that other veterans suffering from PTSD will also benefit from using medical marijuana. He is also a member of VFW Post 1 and is one of the plaintiff's in the lawsuit against the state of Colorado for denying PTSD as a qualifying condition.
