A graduate of the University of Arizona undergraduate (1990) and College of Pharmacy Doctorate (1994) programs, Musil continued his education at the world-renowned Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), earning his Executive Leadership Certificate in 2005.

Musil has received numerous awards and distinctions throughout his career, including being named Pharmacist of the Year by the Arizona Pharmacy Association (2004) and Independent Pharmacist of the Year by the National Community Pharmacists Association (2003). Musil was further recognized for his business success as Avella's founder and CEO, being named to the influential "Forty Under 40" by the Phoenix Business Journal (2007) and in September 2011, Musil was named CEO of the Year among private companies at the Arizona Corporate Excellence Awards, honoring Arizona's largest and fastest-growing private companies.

John and his wife, Caroline, reside in Scottsdale, AZ with their four children.  When not working, John enjoys fly-fishing, upland bird hunting, gardening and giving back to the community with involvement on not-for-profit boards focused on education.
