Talented Bitches aren’t just artists and performers- this week’s Talented Bitch is a tenacious and brilliant businessman! Owner of Sonic Boom Records in Toronto, Canada, Jeff Barber has gone from working in a record shop in his hometown of Minneapolis, USA, during high school to owning Toronto, Canada’s most relevant and creative record stores the city has ever seen. Despite the distribution of music and movies becoming primarily digital Jeff has found a way to keep his store thriving and continuously providing music fans of all genres a place where they can still experience the liaison relationship record stores provide between artists and their fans.  Jeff took his shop from Milwaukee, USA where he was surviving on butter sandwiches to make ends meet in 1995, to having a 2 story shop on Bloor street in Toronto where bands played, and the shops window displays became infamous pieces of art for over a decade. In 2011 their lease expired and they weren’t granted a new one which meant Jeff once again had to adapt to a major change in his business, which he did by opening 2 new Sonic Boom locations in Toronto and soon will accomplish another dream of his- owning his own bar.
