Sitting down at my tiny corner table, surrounded by the hustle and bustle of forks touching plates, the girl next to me bursting out laughing at her boyfriend’s flattering jokes and my very friendly waiter’s smile, I catch glimpse of a very retro pair of white-framed shades walking into the restaurant. It’s Sky Hutchens, also known to most of his fan base from Seattle to Miami to Austin as DJ Scorpio.

Sky has been producing large scaled music events in Austin since 2007.  Having relocated from Seattle and with a background in Fine Arts, he defines himself as an open-format DJ with styles ranging from indie, electro, rock, psych and post punk.  His vast knowledge of music genres and styles contributes considerably to each music and dance experience with his numerous fans out there that each event is filled with its own aesthetic feel.

More excitedly, he is promoting the three year anniversary celebration of the EZ Action party series happening on September 6th at the Beauty Bar starting from 9pm with a mind-blowing line-up including Ode To Oscillator at 12:30, Parking at 11:45, Your Kisses Cause Crashes at 11:00, End Wave at 10:15 and The Vessel performing at 9:30.

In addition to the EZ Action parties, Sky is also promoting the very newly launched Nite School events happening bi-weekly on the second and fourth Thursdays at the Beauty Bar, with the first event happening on September 22nd.  The line-up at this event includes Mixed Use Media playing at 11:30, Knifight at 10:15 and DJs Scorpio & Goon from 9-2.   Make sure to bring yourself and your best friend as there’ll be great drink specials!

I got a chance to sit down and chat with Sky about these events, his thoughts on music styles, popular stuff coming up, etc.  Take a look at our interview.
