Medicus Juniors Dominate Daily News Classic

Who do you root for when four of your junior golfers are in the hunt for a championship? As coaches you don’t make that type of decision. All one can do is watch, encourage and be proud of how your golfers are performing.

This was the scenario this week at the Daily News Junior Classic. At the start of the first round on Wednesday four of Medicus Golf Player Development Juniors teed off in search of the championship in the under 11 age group. After a five hour rain delay Alex Lucking (38) led the way with Stephen Shephard (40) Brock Ochsenreiter (42) and Tyler Cohen (45) close behind.

All four of Medicus Golf players were well positioned as they held four of the top 6 places.

Paired in two groups in back to back tee times in Thursday’s final round, the stage was set for some fireworks and the boys delivered. Brock, playing one group ahead of Stephen and Alex and with Tyler, made a charge at Alex by eagling the par 5 seventeen and closed the round by birding the par 4 eighteen. Alex hung in there with a birdie on the par 5 seventeen with a great 3rd shot from the greenside bunker. Finishing with a par on 18 Alex took the championship. Both Alex and Brock closed their final round nine holes with 2-under 34’s while Stephen shot 40 and Tyler improved 3 shots from the previous day by shooting a 42.

When all was said and done and the trophies were handed out, Alex Lucking (72) finished first while Brock Ochsenreiter (76) and Stephen Shephard (80) finished 2nd and 3rd. Tyler Cohen (87), who is one of the newer golfers in the Medicus Golf Player Development Program, cracked the top 5 by finishing 5th.

We at Medicus Golf are so very proud of all the hard work these players put into their games. Congratulations to all! Age has no limits to the benefits of total game improvement programs that includes both physical, mental, equipment and of course swing instruction. The before mentioned golfers who are 10 and 11 prove this to the nth degree.

Under the watchful eye of Chuck Evans, Executive Director of Instruction for Medicus Golf, we establish and create a plan for the players and then walk with them through every step of the process to assure that they are prepared and then, it is up to the player to perform to the best of their ability.
