Ann McNeill, a BetterInvesting Volunteer, talks with Akari Muhisani about his investing story.

Akari is a native Chicagoan growing up on the far south side in the West Pullman
neighborhood and Alsip, IL.
Akari obtained a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from Grambling State University,
and  a Masters of Science in Computer Network Systems from Elmhurst College. While at
Grambling, he joined the Louisiana and Illinois Air National Guard as a Telephone
Maintenance Technician. His highest rank was an E-5 Staff Sergeant.
Professionally, he worked as a Network Engineer for Hewitt Associates (Now Alight) for 5
years. He then joined Cisco as a Systems Engineer covering public sector accounts for 7
years and 3 years as a Collaboration Product Sales Specialist. He spent a year at Verizon
Enterprise Solutions as an Advanced Communications Specialist covering Fortune 500
accounts. Currently, he works at Dell Technologies as an Account Executive covering the
City of Chicago and Cook County.
Akari is a life member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc and Mentor for the Isuthu Rites of
Passage Male Mentors Ministry at Trinity United Church of Christ. He’s a Chicagoland
Better Investing Chapter Director, an avid stock investor and a member of three investment
clubs. He enjoys speaking with youth and young adults about financial empowerment and
careers in technology. He’s a member of Soho House social club.
Akari enjoys cooking, Deejaying, working out and spending time with his wife Helen and
two daughters Sanaa (8) and Zuri (6).
