Ty Hunter was born in Mobile, Alabama and grew up in Southern California. After high school Ty attended Central Methodist University where he played football and earned a bachelor's degree in criminal justice.

After college Ty moved to New York City in the year 2000. After a few years of pursuing acting Ty became a member of a theater group and performed in a few variety shows. During this time Ty began writing plays for the stage, and with the encouragement of a friend he wrote his first screenplay which garnered a lot of interest by actors in the NYC area who wished to be considered for casting in the project.

In 2007 Ty screened a short film at the Cannes Film Festival titled The Unremarkables, which led to an offer to teach a workshop at the Florence Film School in Florence, Italy.

After the completion of principal photography on his second feature titled Freedom, Ty moved back to Southern California to complete Freedom and pursue other projects. Since his return he has written and directed two shorts, ten music videos and one documentary. Freedom is slated to be released in the summer of 2015.
