With the release of her latest album, Rich Girl, soul diva Angie Stone took control of her musical destiny. “Over the years, I heard through social media from a lot of people who felt I was moving away from my grass roots. And a lot of that had to do with me allowing people to co-write the lyrics on my songs,” she tells host Loretta McNary. “But what I did was go back to the basics of having the producers give me the music tracks and then I would put my personal twists on them before I let anyone else get involved. And I think that’s why you have that core Angie feel. It’s primarily my creative voice.”
