On MLK Day, the Lets Be Frank Show will examine just How far has Black Images in the Media Progressed since the days of MLK.At the time of his death, only a Handful of shows on tv had black characters like Bill Cosby on I SPY and Dianne Carroll in Julia. There were even fewer films as the era of blaxploitation came after his death. There appeared to be a renaissance when Spike Lee and John Singleton came on the scene. Then Tyler Perry nearly single handedly took over Hollywood, at least black Hollywood. But just how far have we come. In 2011, there were only 3 films that were made where black characters were dominant or the plot was about black life. This year, there is much anticipation concerning the $58 million film Red Tails. Many film critics suggest the success or failure of this film may be critical to the future of black cinema. What do you think.
