AMTRYKES is the topic of today's show. "What is an Amtryke?" you might ask. Amtrykes are adaptive trykes, especially designed to give people with disabilities greater mobility. The trykes, which are designed to fit anybody from tiny preemie toddlers to full-sized adults are useful for giving greater mobility and providing therapeutic and recreational fun. Tonight we'll have with us Ms. Sue Hayworth, an extraordinary physical therapist from Texas, who developed the Amtryke and the Amtryke program 20 years ago, in conjunction with a volunteer from her local AMBUCS chapter. We'll also have with us, Mr. J. Joseph Copeland, the national executive director of AMBUCS. AMBUCS, the acronym means American Business Club, was a civic service club that reorganized into a public charity in the 1990's. The AMBUCS mission is working with children/people with disabilities to improve their lives. Sue and Joe were the guest of The Gregory Center for Exceptional Children and Families, Inc. today as we hosted our Trykes for Tykes event to present the Amtrykes to the Los Angeles based community and to learn more about the new trykes ourselves (our Amtryke model is over 15 years old and still going strong). Tonight's show will be all about Amtryke, how it came to be and the benefits it can provide to its users. Find out more about the Amtryke by contacting Dr. Cheryl Bryantbruce at 866-451-8112 or visiting http://www.gregorycenter.org or go to the Amtryke site at http://www.ambucs.com/amtryke/. Amtrykes are made to order according to the individual needs of the person with disabilities and can be purchased at a modest price. In the event you cannot afford an Amtryke, an AMBUC chapter does fundraising that assures that you are able to benefit from a tryke regardless of your financial situation. Let's welcome Sue Hayworth and Joe Copeland and Let's Talk About It!
