A 7-year-old child is killed by an NYPD tow truck driver who came speeding around a corner while she was checking her phone and driving in Brooklyn, NY. Two mothers lose their children on Halloween in North Carolina to drivers not watching the road but checking their phones and changing their radio station channels, Car crashes caused by drivers under the influence of cannabis edibles. The death toll of victims of distracted driving victims is rising at a disturbingly rapid rate, but there is a disproportionate rate of convictions or punishmentsto the perpertrators. The accountability should land on our lawmakers and law enforcement officials to make sure that the message is sent that distracted driving will not be tolerated. Another form of distracted driving or infractions of road safety laws falls in the lap of unenforced punishments of authority figures abusing their powers and privilges drivers operating their vehicles without regard for road regulations. This is the first of a two-part series where tonight we discuss the damage is done by civilian perpetrators that are not being held accountable due to gross negligence of enforcing these road safety laws.
